Nasal Irrigation usage technique

Aim of the procedure:

The aim of the procedure is to moisten and loosen the crusts which form in the nasal cavity after the procedure.

Preparation:

For performing nasal irrigation, you need to have an irrigation solution which can be obtained as follows:

  • It can be obtained as a pre-prepared solution.

  • You can prepare it yourself by taking ¼ tsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of table salt and mixing them in 300 ml of warmed and then cooled water. Take the prepared solution in a red bulb mucous sucker.

Performing the procedure:

  1. Shake the container well if you are using a pre-prepared solution.

  2. Position yourself in front of a wash basin and bend forward and turn to the opposite side.

  3. Place the nozzle of the container in your nostril in such a way that it is directed laterally.

  4. While saying kha-kha-kha, press the nozzle firmly for 8-10 times or hold it for 10 seconds. If you are using the bulb, press it firmly and repeat the procedure till the prepared solution is empty.

  5. Repeat the same procedure on the other side.

If the procedure is done properly, it would bring out crusts through your nostril.

During the procedure you can breathe through your mouth.
