Post-operative instructions after stapedotomy

Stapedotomy is a procedure where a piston has been kept in the place of the stapes with the aim of improving the hearing. To avoid complications and discomfort due to the procedure you are requested to follow the below instructions.
For TWO WEEKS from the date of surgery:
Do not lie on the operated side.
Do not shake the head vigorously.
Do not blow the nose.
Do not chew hard food.
Do not travel by auto rickshaw, 2 wheelers for two weeks.
Do not take head bath.
Do not clean the tongue with tongue cleaner.
Do not strain at stools. Do not lift heavy weights.
For ONE MONTH from the date of the surgery:
Do not play outdoor games or exercise.
Do not take oil bath.
Do not undertake air travel.
For TWO MONTHS from the date of the surgery:
Do not go to a hill station.
Do not take bath in a river, tank, sea or a swimming pool, keep ear dry.
FOREVER after the surgery:
Do not dive deep in a swimming pool.
Do not get your ear syringed.
Do not apply oil to the ear but clean the ear with a cotton swab dipped in eau de cologne whenever you have a scratching sensation in the ear.
Do not try to open the ears by forcing air with the mouth closed.
